You Can Travel to Gangtok by Air, Train or by Road as well. Gangtok is a captivating location in northeast India that attracts visitors from all over the world. It is the capital city of the state of Sikkim and is located at an elevation of 5,500 feet. This city is nestled against the beautiful Himalayas, providing spectacular vistas.

How to reach Gangtok easily?

Gangtok is also the starting point for many beautiful hikes and mountain passes. It is home to fantastic sights such as Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim’s biggest monastery. The city is popular among tourists for its Buddhist shrines, adventure, diverse flora and wildlife, a great variety of butterflies, and visual beauty. Other must-see sights in Gangtok are the Orchid Sanctuary’s remarkable variety of orchids, the beautiful Tashi Ling, which gives breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga range. Travel to Gangtok by Air

Gangtok is well connected by air to several of India’s main cities. Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal is approximately 124 kilometers away from Gangtok. The travel from this airport to Gangtok takes around 4-5 hours and is fairly picturesque, with mountains and rivers in the background. You may get a taxi at the airport.

If you are willing to spend extra and want to experience some excitement, book a seat in a TSA chopper to reach Gangtok in 20 minutes. However, the availability of helicopter services is dependent on weather conditions. Flights are sometimes canceled owing to inadequate reservations.

The good news is that Sikkim now has its own airport, Pakyong Airport, which will connect it directly to India’s major cities. At the moment, just a few planes fly from here. The airport is located in Pakyong hamlet, some 35 kilometers south of Gangtok. This is Sikkim’s first airport, located at an elevation of 4,590 feet, and is one of India’s highest altitude airports. It will be much easier to get to Gangtok in less time. It will save travel time by five hours.

The Pakyong Greenfield airport is the nearest airport to Gangtok. You can get a cab from here to Gangtok. It is roughly 35 kilometers away from the capital city Gangtok. There is though very thin chance of getting the tickets and the right time or day of travel. The flights from this airport are very thing and runs only fews days in a week. Most of the people opt for Bagdogra rather than Pakyong Greenfield Airport.

Travel to Gangtok by Train

When you travel to Gangtok by Train, the nearest railway station to Gangtok is in Siliguri, West Bengal, at New Jalpaiguri. It is around 148 kilometers from Gangtok. The railway station has direct connections to important cities such as Kolkatta and New Delhi. You may easily catch a taxi or cab from New Jalpaiguri to Gangtok (it takes around 4-5 hours). There are other state-run buses, although they take longer (around 6-7 hours).

Travel to Gangtok by Road

By road, Gangtok is well connected to other cities and locations. When you travel to Gangtok by road, except in a few places, the roads are in fair condition. Tourists like to drive to Gangtok from Kolkata, Kalimpong, Siliguri, and Darjeeling. Private jeeps, buses, and taxis are available from Siliguri and Bagdogra. In West Bengal, a number of state-run buses connect Gangtok and Siliguri. The transport condition in Sikkim is fairly good enough for travel and is in constant improvement and maintenance.
While travelling by road, once after entering Rangpo, the gateway to Sikkim, The road leads to Gangtok crossing, Rangpo, Singtam, Ranipool and then finally to Gangtok.
